I recently discovered overnight oats and honestly, I wasn’t a fan of the store-bought ones. I figured it might have been a little too hipster for me to try and I was okay with that. A friend suggested I make my own and I might like it better.
Well, challenge accepted.
After scouring Beyonce’s internet for recipes, I came up with my own borrowing a little from one and from another (like everyone does). And guess what? I found the perfect combination! So, naturally I had to share it with you all!
Are you ready? Here we go!
The first thing I did was create a base. Once you create a base, making overnight oats becomes easy breezy lemon squeezy like Bear says.
Ingredients:
Rolled oats (not quick oats or steel-cut oats)
- 1/3 cup Rolled oats (not quick oats or steel-cut oats)
- 1 Tbsp. Maple syrup
- 1 tbsp. Chia seeds (they’re full of fiber and will help thicken the oats)
- 1/2 cup Almond milk (I used vanilla-sweetened almond milk)
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (I used plain, but you can use any kind you want)
Once you have your base, you can add any toppings to your heart’s content:
- Fresh fruit (I used strawberries)
- Nuts
- Chocolate chips
- Coconut
- Whatever you like!
I set mine for 3 hours, but it tasted better overnight as all the ingredients were mixed in and set.
Now, that we know the players, how do we play the game?
Directions:
- Place all ingredients into a sizable container and mix until combined.
- Cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap—place in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or overnight. Toppings can be added the night before or immediately before serving.
- Uncover and enjoy from the container the next day. Thin with a little more milk or water, if desired.
